Different programs uses the Gnome-Keyring to store passwords, e.g. Google Chrome, Owncloud, ... Whenever such an application asks for credentials from the keyring, the 'gnome-keyring-daemon' is started in the background.  </para><para>If the 'gnome-keyring-daemon' starts the first time, it asks for a master password, to encrypt all further data (typically user/password credentials).  </para><section><title>Master password lost</title><para>In case the master password is unknown, the keyring database can be deleted (including loosing all stored passwords) - If the keyring has never been actively used, this is not a big loss.  </para><itemizedlist><listitem><para>Start <code>Applications &gt; Accessoires &gt; Passwords and Keys</code> </para></listitem><listitem><para>Delete entries under 'Passwords' </para></listitem></itemizedlist><para><inlinemediaobject><imageobject><imagedata fileref="https://wiki.math.uzh.ch/public/keyring?action=AttachFile&amp;do=get&amp;target=Keyring.png"/></imageobject><textobject><phrase>Keyring.png</phrase></textobject></inlinemediaobject> </para></section><section><title>Password &amp; Secrets: Gnome-Keyring</title><para>We recommend to use <ulink url="https://wiki.math.uzh.ch/public/keyring/public/keepassx#">keepassx</ulink> instead of Gnome-Keyring.  </para><para>To check the credentials stored in Gnome-Keyring, open 'Applications &gt; Acessoires &gt; Passwords &amp; Keys' </para></section></section></article>
